September 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan rebels says they are fighting government troops in Central Equatoria’s Lainya county a day after similar clashes in Kajo-keji county between the rival forces.
The latest fighting is a blow the revitalized agreement signed on Wednesday by President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
In a statement issued on Friday, the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel said government troops attacked their hideout in Lainya this morning.
“Early this morning the 14/09/2018 at about 7:15am, the regime’s forces heavily stormed our position at Mundu in Lainya county but our gallant SPLA-IO repulsed them with significant losses,” he said.
Lam said their troops have managed to refuse the attackers and are being pursued towards Jamara village.
“The remnants are being pursued towards Jamara which they recaptured from us a few days ago,” he said adding that “A similar attack this morning at about 9:30am by anti-peace elements of the SPLA IG was also repulsed at our base of Mangalatore in Kajo-Keji County with heavy losses.”
He urged the government to decease from attacking it’s forces which violates the agreement on the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan.
“We urge Juba regime as one of the key partners to the signed Revitalized ARCISS to restrain its forces from violating this agreement signed on 12/09/2018 in Addis Ababa,” he said.
Lam added that “We also call upon CTSAAM to keep investigating these broad day light violations by some elements within the SPLA.”
