Rights group urges release of prominent activist

August 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A rights organization in South Sudan has urged the South Sudan government to release teh detained human rights and political activist, Peter Biar Ajak who has been keep by the national security since last week.

On Saturday, prominent civil rights activists and political commentator, Peter Biar Ajak was arrested by the South Sudan National Security while leaving the Juba international airport leaving for Aweil.

His wife said the national security are yet to come up with a reason to why he was arrested and keep for almost a week now.

“We members of South Sudan peace coalition (SSPC) are concerned of an illegal detention of Mr. Peter Biar Ajak by National security intelligence service (NSIS) which came to our attention on 28th    July ,2018 and as such, we are writing this press, the South Sudan peace coalition in Kenya (SSPCK) isn’t aware of where Mr. peter about still unclear, therefore we are appealing to the government of South Sudan to free him with an immediate effect,” the South Sudan peace coalition said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.

The rights groups urged in the  statement the interantional organizations, CSO as well as indepepndent avocates to campaign for his release.

“South Sudan peace coalition(SSPC) is calling upon international organizations, independent advocates, student associations, activists, and civil society organizations  to campaign against arbitrary arrest, and false arrest unlawful detention and false imprisonment and all kinds  of this dehumanization  without probable cause are punishable under international Law like international criminal court ICC (1998) and international court of justice ICJ (1945) ,since South Sudan  government is doing all forms above not only to Peter alone but in general since most of non violence activists are also under illegal detention,” the statement further said.
