Rights Group urges President Salva Kiir to reconsider his decision on the revocation of the appointment of Hon Dharuai Mabor Teny

October 30, 2021 (Juba)– The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) urges President Salva Kiir to reconsider his decision on the revocation of the appointment of Hon Dharuai Mabor Teny citing that it is a violation of the peace agreement.

According to a press statement extended to Nyamilepedia, the CPA is deeply concerned that president Kiir violated the revitalized peace agreement. 

“CPA is deeply concerned about the violation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) by the President.”

“According to the 1.3.1.1 The Incumbent TGoNU comprises of the former GRSS, former SPLM/A-IO (led by Gen. Taban Deng Gai) and the Other Political Parties in TGoNU.” Reads part of the statement. 

The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA)’s Executive Director, Ter Manyang Gatwech says the Presidential decree dated October 27th, 2021 is a clear violation of Article 63.1 of the constitution.

“As human rights organizations that advocate for peaceful South Sudan, leaders should have minimum tolerance when it comes to the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS)” Ter said.

“According to article 1.14.2.4 of the R-ARCISS, OPP is allocated thirty (30) members of parliament in which President Salva Kiir do not have any powers to make revocation of the appointment of Hon: Dharuai Mabor Teny without consultation with the OPP leader in which Hon Dharuai Mabor Teny belong” Ter continued.

The CPA urges all the stakeholders to read and understand the Revitalized Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) for its interpretation.
