03, March 2017 (Nyamilepedia) — Intense fighting continues in South Sudan as rebels claim killing more 120 regime soldiers loyal to President Salva Kiir in separate attacks.
Government soldiers loyal to the President Kiir have also continued attacks on positions of the armed opposition groups despite calls for National Prayers and National Dialogue by President Salva Kiir this week.
Heavy fighting over the week in the three different regions of South Sudan has left more than 120 government soldiers dead, dozens injure and dozens more captured alive in Jonglei, Western Bahr El Ghazal and Central Equatoria according to the country’s main armed opposition group lead by Dr. Riek Machar.
A deadly rebel attack has left more than 73 government soldiers dead in the the area of Attaar near Khorfulus at the border of Jonglei and Upper Nile border.
“….the gallant SPLA-IO forces under Maj. General James Mawic Makuac laid an effective ambush on them between Nyithor and Ataar.” said the armed opposition official spokesperson Brig. William Gartjiath
According to the rebel spokesperson a large number of weapons and ammunition was captured from the regime’s forces during the clashes which lasted more than 3 hours leaving government soldiers fleeing in disarray.
“In the fighting that lasted for about three 3 hours, the gallant SPLA-IO forces killed more than seventy-three (73) Juba regime soldiers on spot, and captured some seventy-six (76) AK -47, ten (10) PKM and seven (7) RPG-7 in good condition.” said a statement release by Brig. William
The rebel group accused government forces of attacking civilians in the area of Khorfulus and Canal while burning women and children alive in their houses after failing to find rebels, the burning of the civilians have been confirmed by the media and the UN.
In Western Bahr El Ghazal meanwhile rebels say they have scattered a military camp that was manned by Sudanese rebels supporting President Kiir’s forces in Raga.
According to our source in Western Bahr El-Ghazal the SPLA-IO forces led by Brigadier General Ahmed Musa Dacomi lunched surprised attacked on a camp of Sudanese rebel known as the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and regime soldiers stationed in the outskirts of Raja.
The commander of the camp was captured alive and a large number of military equipments, vehicles and ammunitions was taken in good condition including one tank, 15 landcruisers fully mounted with military weapons.
Meanwhile in Kajo-Keji Central Equatoria intense battles between armed opposition loyal to Riek Machar and regime soldiers loyal to President Salva Kiir has lead to the killing of 4 government soldiers described as Mathiang Anyor meanwhile 5 soldiers have been captured alive and taken by rebels.
According to a leading member of the armed opposition from Central Equatoria Brig. Gen. Matata Frank the operation was commanded by Col. Loture under the overall command of Gen. Lokujo, the senior official says a number of weapons were also captured by would not disclose for security reasons.
“Yesterday our forces of brigade 3 commanded by col. Loture under the overall command of Gen. Lokujo……, In the process 4 mathiang anyor were put out of action, 5 others captured alive, for the number of weapons captured, that you don’t need to know.” Said a statement by Gen. Matata
The senior officials says 10 civilians who were illegally detained by the government soldiers have also been released by their forces during the operation.
Fighting has continued in different parts of South Sudan despite the country being hit by famine and calls for warring parties to stop fighting, Rebels accuse forces loyal to President Kiir of attacking their positions resulting in retaliations attacks.
