August 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Rebel soldiers loyal to South Sudan’s former army chief General Paul Malong Awan have deployed near the capital Juba under unclear reasons, sources with knowledge with the matter said.
General Malong who was reported as a powerful army chief by most of local and international media houses is the leader of South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A), a rebel group he formed in March 2018 to fight the government of President Salva Kiir.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, a source at South Sudan’s ministry of interior said they have received reports from local residents around Juba that soldiers who said they belong to Malong’s SSUF/A deployed near Juba saying they have reported the issue to Bilpam.
“We have received report from locals around Juba telling us that soldiers loyal to [General] Paul Malong have infested some areas around Juba,” the interior ministry source told the Nyamilepedia from Juba on Tuesday.
“We have so far reported this suspicion to the ministry of defense and other authorities in Bilpam for further investigation,” the source added.
The Nyamilepedia was unable to reach Malong’s aides for denial confirmation.
