June 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese opposition meeting in the Sudanese capital Khartoum has condemned Tuesday’s sentence against human rights activist, Peter Biar Ajak, businessman Kerbino Wol and others.

The high-level meeting of top SPLM-IO leadership also reiterated it’s commitment to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed in September last year between the many opposition groups and the Juba-based government.

In a communique issued on Wednesday, the group called on the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit to revoke the sentence against the sentenced and release them.

“[The SPLM-IO] condemns the recent political trials of Peter Biar Ajak, Kerubino Wol Agok, Simon Dau, Bol Akech, Benjamin Agany Akol and Gar Duel Gar that have resulted in the sentencing to terms in prison and, therefore, the SPLM/A (IO) calls on the government to immediately release the six men and the other remaining political detainees/prisoners as per the Agreement,” the communique of the four-day gathering partly read.

The communique further urged the government in Juba to create a free political atmosphere viable for peace dissemination in the war-torn country.

“……..urges the government to open up political space in order to, amongst others, facilitate joint peace dissemination, national reconciliation and healing, fundamental freedoms and civil rights,” it said.
