February 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the armed opposition group, South Sudan United Movement (SSUM), Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka, has denied reports that he is against the ongoing implementation of the revitalized peace deal.

Gatdet whose group is a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition groups in September 2018.

In a statement issued on Monday, Gen. Gatdet who has been away from the public said he aware of the social media ‘lies’ that he against peace agreement saying these claims are unfounded and baseless.

“There are propaganda displayed in the social media that I am against peace. All are unfounded and baseless lies spread by violators and spoilers of the revitalized peace agreement who want to prolong the suffering [of] our beloved citizens,” Gatdet said.

He further asserted that he did not sign the agreement under duress but did so instead and would make it public if he is not in the mood to implement the peace agreement aimed at ending the five-year old conflict.

“When I signed the peace agreement, no one forced me to do so. I did it with my will, because South Sudanese people are crying for peace and it was the response of their tears they had been shedding.” he said adding that he “came back to demonstrate my willingness to implement the agreement [in] letter and spirit with all other stakeholders who are ready to rescue South Sudan from the crisis.”

Gatdet added that he has been in the front-line for two months for the “Dissemination of the peace agreement.”
