April 16th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese rebels on Monday announced the capture of several areas near Bentiu, the Unity State capital, days after the continuation of government battles with the rebel forces West and south of Bentiu.

Col. Lam Paul Ngundeng, deputy spokesman of the rebel forces SPLA-IO, told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon that their forces were forced to capture the mentioned areas because government forces sought to capture areas under their control and that they acted in self defense to serve life.

“We capture Nhialdiu this morning, as well as Buaw and Tharkaan. we were forced to do so because the government has been trying to capture our areas for the last one week. we were acting in self defense” Lam told the Nyamilepedia.

Lam claimed that their forces are now matching towards Koch county.

SPLA military spokesman Lul Ruai Koang was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Nyamilepedia.

Clashes has been on-going between government and rebel forces since last week. Government forces reportedly tried to attack opposition strongholds around Bentiu when rebel forces reportedly counter-attacked them.

Government and opposition groups has been trading accusations over who carried out attack first against who.
