December 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) has called on peace implementing body, National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), to prudently manage and utilize funds meant for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year to end the six-year old civil war. The agreement has faced setbacks such as lack of funding and commitment of the parties to fully implement the agreement.

Speaking during the opening session of the 11th plenary in Juba, R-JMEC Interim Chairperson Lt. Gen. Augostino Njoroge empathized the importance of accountability and transparency in the management of the peace implementation funds.

“I must emphasize that the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of the availed funds is of paramount importance,” he said.

Njoroge who also called on the delivery of in-kind donations that are held up in Juba to their intended cantonment sites without any further delay added: “I urge that some funds be used to immediately purchase and deliver food and supplies to cantonment sites to address the unfortunate situation of troops without basic supplies leaving the sites.”
