January 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The main armed opposition group of the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) on Monday cancelled a list of the group’s proposed committees to Juba over what it said was an apparent public outcry over the selection procedure.
The office of the SPLM-IO Chairman last week sent a list of over two hundreds party cadres to the group’s Deputy Chairman Odwar asking him to prepare, in his capacity as Deputy Chairman of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), necessary arrangements for their travel to Juba.
The list included a national peace dissemination committee, protocol for the FVP designate and states peace dissemination committees.
However, in an executive order issued on Monday, the SPLM-IO deputy chairman said he decided to cancel the list after a discussion with the SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
“It was agreed that the list is suspended and that I, Henry Dilah Odwar, in my capacity as Deputy Chairman, shall carry out the necessary rectification,” he said.
He said he is carrying out consultations with the SPLM-IO leadership on which procedure will be used to avail a different list.
“I am in consultation with the leadership of the movement in regards to the non R-ARCSS bodies/committees i.e. (who are not members of various committees for implementation mechanism) named in the list after which a process shall be availed as to how selection of cadres into categories and agreed upon committees is going to be conducted,” he added.
The Deputy SPLM-IO Chairman further assured the supporters saying “I would like to assure the entire membership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) that a transparent and fair procedure shall be followed to uphold respect for institutions, diversity, inclusivity, gender balance, harmony and other principles as enshrined in our constitution.”
On the same note, the SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations, Puok Both Baluang confirmed while speaking to the Nyamilepedia the authenticity of the letter to the Nyamilepedia saying the list has in fact been cancelled.
