November 15,2021—A prominent Sudanese scholar has rejected an offer from the military juntas to be named as country’s prime minister to lead the civilians’ component in a new transitional authority.
In a statement to Aljazeera TV on Friday, the Sudanese military leaders proposed Prof. Hunud Abia Kadouf to be appointed as the new Prime Minister of Sudan but Kadouf declined to accept the portfolio.
Kadouf was born in 1944 in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan state and has served in prominent positions in higher institutions inside and outside the country.
He is serving currently as the Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Africa in Khartoum, a position he appointed into last year by the minister of higher education.
He also served as the Dean of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law at the International Islamic University. Malaysia.
South Sudan’s Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime, who served as midwife of the Sudanese peace deal, said last month that the ousted Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok will take part in the new transitional government of Sudan.
But in his part, the coup initiator Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who deposed Hamdok last month and appointed himself last Thursday as the head of new Sovereign Council, has promised to appoint an independent Prime Minister, who will constitute only technocrat cabinet that works for the sole interest of the Sudanese people rather than interests of political parties.
Last week, the Sudanese political parties denounced Al-Burhan’s new Sovereign Council and termed it as a “Mockery” to the Sudanese people.
Al-Burhan promised to be out in the post Transitional government but said he is now taking over to restore the order and full stability in the country.
