December 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – There is an ongoing progress at the meeting of President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny, a senior South Sudan government official said Monday.
Machar who returned to Juba last week for talks on pending issues met Mr. Kiir on Monday evening to discuss contentious issues affecting the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, according to the presidency.
“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir and the First Vice President designate, Dr. Riek Machar held a consultative meeting at the State House on Monday to discuss the implementation of the outstanding critical issues on the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” the presidency said in a statement this evening.
The meeting, also attended by Sudan’s deputy chairman of Sovereignty Council General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, also discussed the violation of ceasefire in Maiwut according to an opposition official allied to Machar’s SPLM-IO.
“The meeting also discussed the recent violation of the ceasefire agreement in Maiwut by government forces,” the opposition official told the Nyamilepedia on condition of anonymity from Juba.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Tut Gatluak who is also the chairperson of NPTC said “there is progress and political will from the two principles to implement the outstanding critical issues on the peace agreement.”
He added that the “two principles will meet again tomorrow to discuss the outstanding issues on the implementation of the peace agreement.”
