President Kiir travels to Nairobi, Kenya to attend funeral of Kenyan former president.

Juba, South Sudan

April 29, 2022 — South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has traveled to Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to attend the State Funeral of the former Kenyan President, Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki CGH,  who passed on last week at the age of 90.

In a statement by Presidential Press Unit, President Kiir travels to Kenya in order to show sympathy by joining Kenyans in mourning their third president,

“.. His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan left Juba for Nairobi Kenya today ( Thursday, 28th April 2022), to attend the State Funeral of President Emilio Mwai Kibaki, Former President of the Republic of Kenya who passed on, last week”,the statement reads.

Upon arrival in Kenya, the South Sudanese president was received by Kenyan by the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary.

“. Upon his arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit was received by Prof. Margaret Kobia, Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Gender , Senior citizens Affairs and Special Programmes, and Amb. Chol Mawut, South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya”, the statement added.

The former president Kibaki is remembered for transforming the Kenyan Economy and for mediation the Sudanese peace talks in Kenya leading to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that brought independence to South Sudan.

President Kiir declared three days of mourning  and ordered flag to fly at half-mast during these days in honor of president Kibaki.
