Oct 3,2021—The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed his willingness to support the population displaced by flooding in the country.
According to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Peter Mayen Majongdit, who met president Kiir in his office on Wednesday to brief him on natural disaster engulfing the country, Kiir has expressed his willingness to support the victims of flood across the country.
“H.E President Salva Kiir has expressed commitment to support the victims of the floods in those areas”, Minister Mayen told media.
In a statement released by Presidential Press Unit, President Salva Kiir Mayardit was briefed in his office by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon Peter Mayen Manjongdit about the current humanitarian situation and the impacts of flashfloods following heavy rains which has displaced 1.2 million people and over 4,000 households in low land areas.
In his remarks to the media after the meeting, Hon. Mayen said President Kiir has promised to offer an assistance to the flood affected population.
“The states severely affected by flash floods are Jonglei State, Unity State, Upper Nile State, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria State, Warrap and Lakes State as well as the three administrative areas of Abyei, Greater Pibor and Ruweng”, he added.
Minister Mayen Manjongdit also urged the humanitarian agencies to support the flood victims with basic needs and provide urgent humanitarian response to the affected people.
Many areas in South Sudan have been submerged by water especially the greater Upper Nile region.
