Juba, South Sudan
January 4, 2022—South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has relived in a decree the country’s governor of the central bank, Hon. Dier Tong Ngor.
In a separate decree read out on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), President Kiir issued a republican decree appointing Moses Makur Deng as the new Governor of the Bank of South Sudan.
President Kiir did not also provide reasons as usual for sacking Dier Tong Ngor but according to the Revitalized Agreement signed in 2018, there should be general reshuffling in the government this year as part of reform.
Makur was until his appointment the chief of Central Bank serving as the director general for bank supervision, research and statistics at the central bank.
President Kiir also dismissed the First Undersecretary for Finance and Planning Ochum Genes Karlo, and named Simon Ladu as his replacement.
In another separate decree, Kiir appointed Ochum as the new undersecretary for the ministry of trade and industry.
Under Tong’s leadership, the bank introduced wide-ranging reforms to the financial markets last April, including a requirement that commercial banks quote a single foreign exchange rate to limit market distortions.
