Juba, South Sudan
October 23, 2021—South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a republican decree re-appointing Dr. Chol Deng Abel as the managing director of the Nilepet.
This comes after President Kiir issued a decree last week firing Eng. Bol Ring Muorwel as the Managing Director of the Nile Petroleum Corporation.
The republican decree was read out on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) this evening re-appointing the former Managing Director, Dr. Chol Deng Abel.
The position of the Nilepet has exposed many aspiring candidates throughout the week hoping that they could be appointed to the position.
Some Facebook commentators suggested that the next MD of Nilepet after Dr. Bol Ring should come from other ethnic groups in the country since South Sudan is multi-ethnic and cultural diverse nation comprising more than 60 tribes; however, president Kiir gets criticized for circulating most key positions in the country among his Dinka tribe.
