President Kiir promotes his own executive director to top military rank.

September 4, 2021— South Sudan incumbent, Salva Kiir Mayardit has promoted his own Executive Director to one of the highest ranks in the country.

According to news from the office of the president, Salva Kiir has promoted James Deng Wal to the rank of Major General in South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) effective from September 3rd, 2021.

In a statement by the Presidential press Unit,  President Kiir and the entire staff working at the office of the President congratulates Mr. Wal for his promotion to the rank of Major General in South Sudan People’s Defence Forces. 

“Major General James Deng Wal was officially decorated this morning Friday 3rd September 2021 at Defence General Headquarters by the Chief of Defence Forces General Santino Deng Wol”, the statement reads.

The senior official expressed his heartfelt appreciation and sincere thanks to Commander-In-Chief of SSPDF, for lifting him to senior rank in the army and continuing maintaining his work in the Office of the President. 

“After the decoration ceremony at Defence General Headquarters, Major General James Deng Wal expressed his gratitude to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Commander in Chief of SSPDF for the promotion and for his continued guidance to the Defence Forces and also in the Office of the President”,the statement added. 

According to the statement, the promotion of Maj. Gen James Deng Wal signifies that the nation greatly appreciates his work that comes with great responsibilities and commitment. 

This is not the first time, president Kiir promoted politicians to high ranks in the military. He has promoted presidential advisor on security Tut Gatluak Manime from civilian to rank of Lt. General in the army alongside many other politicians.
