June 3, 2022—South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, met the Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan Erdem Mutaf along with a delegation of Turkish Airlines on Wednesday in his office.
This comes a day after South Sudan Civil Aviation announced that the Turkish Airlines will fly direct from Instabul to South Sudanese capital Juba.
In a Presidential Press Unit, the delegation briefed head of state about the operation of Turkish Airlines in the country.
“. The delegation briefed H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit about the operations of Turkish Airlines in South Sudan and the newly inaugurated direct flights from Istanbul to Juba”, the statement reads.
President Kiir said the idea is a move to consolidate the bilateral ties between Turkey and Republic of South Sudan meanwhile describing Turkey as “a Good Friend of South Sudan”.
“.. During the meeting, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit welcomed the Operations of Turkish Airlines in South Sudan, and said it will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two Countries. H.E. the President further described Turkey as a good friend of South Sudan”,the Presidential Unit’s statement added.
According to the statement, Turkish Ambassador, Erdem Mutaf, viewed the initiative as opportunity for two countries, saying it would help to connect South Sudan with the rest of the world.
“.. Ths is a great opportunity for the people of the two Countries. He added that it will as well connect South Sudan to the rest of the world through direct and transit flights of Turkish Airlines”, Mutaf said.
