June 20th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) –Â South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, is in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa for face-to-face talks with rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny, sources told the Nyamilepedia from Addis Ababa today.
The meeting which is taking place tonight will be the first of its kind since Machar was forced into exile nearly two years ago.
Kiir was accompanied by the country’s acting Foreign Minister Martin Elia Lomoro, Head of External Security Gen. Thomas Duoth Guet and Minister of Gender, Child and Social Affairs Awut Deng as well as number of senior government officials.
Machar is already in the Ethiopian capital after an early morning arrival today.
“Yes President Kiir is here, he just arrived from Juba and will meet with Machar in the evening,” one source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
Another source said the two will first meet separately the new Ethiopian prime minister before they meet face-to-face this evening.
“President Kiir and Dr. Machar will meet the Ethiopian Prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed separately and then they will meet in the evening today,” the other source said.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after forces loyal to the country’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and his then Governor of Northern Bahr Al-Ghazal State Gen. Paul Malong Awan went door-to-door in the capital Juba killing civilians belonging to the Nuer ethnic group sparking a nation-wide protests from top army generals from the Nuer leading to a civil war.
