August 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the country’s First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai have been urged to show mercy and release detained SPLA officer, General Buay Rolnyang.
General Buay was arrested in May last in Unity state’s Mayom after fighting break out between him and a militia commander loyal to the government.
Just before the fighting break out, he was accused pf rebelling against the state, a charge he denied and dismissed by a court later on.
Early this year, a ruling by the judge reportedly dismissed all the charges against Buay but South Sudan’s army chief General Jok Riak reportedly was against the ruling and pressuring the military judge to announced Buay’s release with the conclusion that he would be demoted from Major General to private and then dismissed from the army.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of Unity state Community in Kenya, Dak Buoth Riek-gak, urged the President and the First Vice-President to show mercy and release General Buay Rolnyang.
The statement said partly that because “the logo on the letter you always write on bears Justice, liberty and prosperity which are our aspirations that accompanied our hard fought independence that we achieved on 9th day of July 2011 with the overwhelming support of the International community, ……we not only appeal on you to order his release but also plead that he be compensated and those behind his arrest, detention and suffering be held accountable regardless of the positions they occupies.”
