Aug 26, 2021 — South Sudan incumbent, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has left the country this morning leaving the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, temporarily in charge of the country.
According to J1, president Salva Kiir left Juba this morning for Addis Ababa on a one-day visit with hopes to return before the weekend.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit left Juba this morning Thursday 26th August 2021, for a one-day working visit to Addis, Ababa Ethiopia.” Said President Kiir’s press unit.
The presidential press unit confirmed that President Kiir is accompanied by his Minister, Dr. Marial Benjamin, governor of Jonglei State, Denay Chagor and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon. Martin Elia Lomoro.
“The President is accompanied by the Minister of Presidential Affairs Hon Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon Beatrice Khamisa Wani, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon Dr Martin Elia Lomoro and the Governor of Jonglei State Hon Denay Jock Chagor.” The Press Unit confirmed.
He is expected to meet with the Prime Minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed to discuss issues that will strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations between the two Countries and discuss the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
According to J1, President is also expected to discuss issues of mutual interest that includes the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.
The President was seen off upon departure at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny who will oversee the running of the country while President Kiir is away.
This will be the second time Dr. Machar, who has never left the country since his return to Juba, is left in charge of the country.Â
