President Kiir fires Minister of Finance, Athian Diing Athian

Nov 13, 2021 —South Sudan president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has fired the Minister of Finance, Hon. Athiang Diing Athian, who  barely served one year and one week as a minister, and replaced him with a junior politician.

According to a presidential decree that was read through the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), president Kiir has fired Hon. Athian and replaced him Hon. Agak Achuil Lual, the First Undersecretary at Ministry of Trade and East African Community Affairs, last evening, November 12, 2021.

In a separate decree, President Kiir fired the Minister of Interior Hon. Paul Mayom Akec and went on to install a new replacement.

Without justifications, Mr. Kiir moved on to appoint Mahmoud Solomon Agook as the new minister of interior.

In other reports, the SPLM/A-IO is yet to fill several positions that include the Minister of Mining, Deputy Minister of Interior, and other positions that are left vacant by members resigning or rebelling the government.
