June 21, 2022 — While sending a message of condolences on the passing of late Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth Gual, president Salva Kiir Mayardit also had a few other lines to draw in attempt to shade a light on what he believes was a dark political past of late Hon. Manawa or his family.

In exercise of his constitutional obligations, South Sudan president sent his condolences, that of the unity government, his family and that of the people of South Sudan to the family of late Gatkuoth Gual, who lost a son and a daughter, just hours apart; however, President Kiir also struggled to point out how late Manawa or his father might not have contributed to the “liberation struggle”.
According to President Kiir, late Hon. Manawa “was a leader of his own” despite his roots in the liberation struggle.
Late Hon. Manawa died at 5:00am on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt, where he was flown to on Friday evening for further treatment after falling sick in Juba on Wednesday.
Meanwhile president Kiir has left Juba for Nairobi to join his East African Community Counterparts at the Septet summit of Heads of State and the 3rd conclave of the Inter-Congolese Dialogue of the Nairobi process on the Peace and security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
