October 14,2021—-The National Minister of General Education and Instruction, Ms. Awut Deng Achuil confirmed that the results of the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Examinations, which were completed on April 2nd, 2021, will soon be announced after meeting president Salva Kiiir.
Deng said the marking of National examination was finalized last week and now the results will be released any time soon.
According to a corresponding statement that was released by the office of the president, the minister briefed President Kiir about the performance of students across all schools in the country.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit was briefed by the Minister of General Education and Instruction Hon Awut Deng Acuil on the context of the National Examination which was concluded last week”,the statement reads.
“Hon Awut Deng Acuil further briefed H.E the President on the results and performance of all the schools across the Country in 2021 National Examination”,the statement added.
Minister Deng said President Kiir gave his approval for announcement of the result as required by law.
She also stressed that announcing students’s results is very impressive so that they can catch up with lectures at universities.
It is not clear what caused the seven months long delay given that only 34, 536 students sat for the secondary examination in 307 schools in the country; however, the National Examination Council, which is headed by the Minister, demanded 1.3 billion South Sudanese pounds since earlier this year to administrator the examination.
According to the Secretary General of the Examination Council, Simon Nyok, they needed this money to buy examination materials from abroad but it is not clear if the teachers had all that they needed to mark the exams and announce the results.
“We have made it very clear on that the activity plan…that for us to be able to do these exams, do the setting, and procure all pending requirement which is brought abroad in less than 2 months, we need this 1.3 billion as the schools open on Monday,” Mr. Nyok
In regular setting, the marking of secondary school examination takes between two months to three months depending on the number of students who sat for the exam.
South Sudan closed schools for seven months prior to reopening for students in their final years (grade 8 and 12) to sit for their examinations.
In this year’s examination, only 11, 716 girls and 22, 820 boys sat for the Certificate of Secondary Examination(CSE) and patiently waiting for the results to decide on their academic journey.
