January 1, 2022 — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered banning of all active officers, non-commissioned officers, NCOs and South Sudan People’s Defense Forces from exercising politics.
President Kiir also ordered prohibition of youth and women organizations from engaging in politics as well as warning activists against hate speeches on social media.
In a statement by Presidential unit, president Kiir orders prohibition of some institutions from engaging in politics.
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under article 101 (c) of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011(as amended), I, Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, Commander-in-Chief of the SSPDF and Supreme commander of all regular forces, do hereby issue this republican order for the prohibition of all active officers and non-commissioned (NCOs) in the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and all the other regular forces from participating in politics ” President Kiir stated in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
Kiir says all regular forces that include national army, national security are ordered to make sure that these orders are enforced.
He added that any officer or non-commissioned officer who fails to adhere to the enforcement of this order shall be investigated by the relevant authorities and must be punished in accordance with the law.
He emphasized that those who makes propaganda and hate speeches on social media and other media platforms should stop from now or else must be punished for their actions.
