Pope Francis donates thousands of dollars via South Sudan government to floods victims.

October 6, 2021—His Holiness, Pope Francis has made donations of cash amounting to 75, 000 US dollars as his personal contribution to South Sudan government to help the victims of natural disaster.

The Pope made his generous donation in the wake of numerous downpours and devastating flooding, which have displaced over over 1.2 million people and destroyed around more than 6, 000 homes.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Pope Francis sends a donation of 75,000 US dollars to help flood affected population in South Sudan.

“.. Pope’s financial assistance will be sent to the Diocese of Malakal, to assist in emergency management and go to supporting programs for those affected in the diocese”, The Vatican’s Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development has announced on Monday.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, at least over 2.9 million people are affected by floods across the country

The flooding has submerged most parts of Greater Upper Nile region and some part of Bhar el Ghazal and Equatorian regions.

Last week, President Kiir promised the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Peter Mayen Majongdit that he would do what he could in mobilizing funds to respond to catastrophic flooding in the country; however, the government has had low opinion on the impacts of flood regarding it as an usual natural disaster.
