Police Says Man Killed in Obvious Argument Over Money in Juba

Sept 22, 2016(Nyamilepedia) –– Juba police have arrested a 35-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old man in an apparent argument about money, police said on Tuesday.

“The deceased and the suspect were at a traditional ceremony at Nyaying village, Juba County locality on Thursday at about 8:47pm,” Jamal Ramadan police Officer at the scene of crime said.

A misunderstanding about money owed to the man was believed to be what led to his fatal stabbing, Police said.

The woman allegedly drew a knife and stabbed him in the upper body. The man, who could not be named until all his next-of-kin had been informed of his death, died at the scene.

“The suspect was arrested and the police recovered the knife that was used in the murder.

The suspect has been charge of murder under section 206 of the South Sudan penal Code

Act 2008 which states whoever causes the death of another person with the intention of causing:

death; or knowing that death would be the probable and not only a likely consequence of the act

or of any bodily injury which the act was intended to cause,

commits the offence of murder, and upon conviction be sentenced to death or imprisonment for life, and may also be liable to a fine; provided that, if the nearest relatives of the deceased opt for customary blood compensation, the Court may award it in lieu of death sentence with imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.

She is under police custody for further interrogation,” Jamal said.

In related case of money; hot milk was poured on woman at Juba Town trading centre.

A quarrel over non-payment of dues between a tea stall owner and a regular customer led to a youth James Tiunun 29 year old pouring boiling milk over the wife of tea stall owner at Juba Town trading centre nearby public taxi park at afternoon on Wednesday.

The police said that when James was at the tea stall at the place, he had sought a cup of tea. The woman had reportedly asked him to settle the pending dues.

Hence, a quarrel erupted between the two and accused took the vessel containing piping hot milk and poured it on the woman. The woman sustained burn injuries on her face and chest while complainant identified as Mary Nana 26 year old. She has been taken to Juba teaching hospital for medical while accused is also under Juba police station for further legal procedural.

The police have arrested accused on charge of attempt to murder, assault and criminal intimidation.
