June 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A member of the South Sudan Police Service (SSPS) have shot dead a fellow senior colleague over disagreement on the delayment of the police salaries after the later tried to defense and justify the delayment of salaries, residents in Tongping, where the incident took place told the Nyamilepedia.
The, police officer, according to one eye witness was shot in the chest by the other colleague when the two disagreed during a quarreling over the delayment of salaries.
“They were quarreling when the 1st Lt. was shot dead by his junior colleague. They disagreed because of salary delayment. The senior colleague was trying to convince the killer that the delayment of salaries was forced on the government by the ongoing economic crisis,” the eye witness told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
Another eye witness said the police arrested three people who were at the scene after the killer left.
“The police arrested three people. They were asking for the whereabouts of the killer, but they do not know where he left. We can not arrest a person with a gun. Arresting is not our job that is for the government,” he said.
South Sudan’s civil war imposed a unprecedented economic collapse since independence. Government officials including the ministers have gone unpaid for the last one year and the nation’s embassies abroad have been closed down and ambassadors threatened by landlords over unpaid rents for number of months.
