March 4, 2022 — The scheduled retreat for top principals President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been postponed until further notice.
This came after Ugandan President Yoweri Katuga Museveni invited President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny to meet in Uganda to discuss the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Machar’s Press Secretary, Puok Both Baluang, confirmed that the meeting between the two principals, which was supposed to take place on the 3th-4th this week, has been postponed for unknown reasons.
“.. The planned retreat for the 2 principals ; H.E. President Salva Kiir & H.E. the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon which scheduled to take place on 3th – 4th March 2022 in Entebbe, Uganda has been postponed until further notice pending further consultations”, Baluang said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
The planned retreat is meant to review and evaluate the entire agreement especially the outstanding issues pending implementation; however, the two leaders blame the other for the lack of implementation.
