Peace talks to resume today in Khartoum: official

July 8th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Peace talks aiming at ending the ongoing South Sudanese civil war will resume today in the Sudanese capital Khartoum under the auspices of the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir after a Saturday meeting in Kampala between Kiir and Machar resolved to reinstate Machar to the First Vice-President position.

The Ugandan president on Saturday proposed to Kiir and Machar that the incumbent First Vice President Taban Deng Gai remain as the Second Vice President, incumbent Vice President James Wani Igga to be third Vice-President and opposition groups to nominate a fourth vice President which is expected to be a woman.

The SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations Pouk Both Baluang told the Nyamilepedia this morning that the parties are expected to hold another round of talks in Khartoum today to deliberate on some issues that has not been addressed at the Kampala meeting.

Baluang also told the Nyamilepedia on Sunday that the country’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has returned to the Sudanese capital together with the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir aboard the Sudanese presidential jet.

A peace proposal unveiled by the Ugandan mediation on Saturday was accepted by the South Sudanese government and the opposition groups, SPLM-IO, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), the SPLM Former Detainees and other opposition groups asked for a break to consult.
