Peace monitors facing difficulties in verifying cantonment of forces – chairman

April 25th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Chairperson of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), Maj. Gen. Desta Abiche said  his team has been facing logistical challenges that prevents them from verifying cantonment sites for armed groups.

General Abiche made the remarks during the 10th meeting of the CTSAMVM in the capital Juba on Thursday.

“The verification processes regarding the cantonment areas for all armies are underway , but there are many logistical challenges,” he said.

Under the revitalized peace agreement,  the body is tasked to monitor the ongoing ceasefire efforts and to report violations or progress made by the parties.
