July 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The former SPLA Chief of Staff General Paul Malong Awan has denied that he has been put under house arrest following an agreement between South Sudanese security elements and their Kenyan counterparts to keep him indoors.

On Tuesday, sources told the Nyamilepedia that the former top commander of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLA) has been put under house arrest in the Kenyan capital Nairobi by Kenyan Security Forces following an agreement with Kiir’s security.

In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia, the former army chief denied that he has been put under house arrest.

“South Sudan United Front/Army is disputing allegations being circulated by several media outlets including few dailies in Juba and in the social media that the Chairman and Commander-in-Chief Gen. Paul Malong Awan was under house arrest,” Malong’s spokesman Sunday de’John said in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement said similar allegations are meant by the enemies of peace to confuse the South Sudan public.

“The allegations of such nature meant by the enemies of peace to confuse the public. We disconfirm them. Gen. Paul Malong Awan is free and is handling South Sudanese maters of importance with usual resilience,” the statement further said.

Neither the Kenyan security, nor their South Sudanese counterparts were available for comment.
