August 2nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese parties currently in the Sudanese capital Khartoum negotiating an end to the ongoing civil back home have been urged to put aside personal interests and embark on bring peace for the suffering population.
Last week, the South Sudan government, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition led by South Sudan’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in addition to the splinter group led by Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka signed a preliminary deal.
The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) with the exception of Peter Gatdet’s splinter group, and the Former SPLM Political Detainees refused to sign the agreement citing hesitation by the mediators to incorporate their demands into the new peace proposal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Civil Society Organizations Network (CiSON), a consortium of a number of civil society organizations in Lake state, appreciated actions taken by some of the parties who signed the agreement.
“The Civil Society Organizations network (CiSON) in Lakes states appreciates the step taken by some political leaders toward initial peace agreement that aims at bring lasting peace to the people of South Sudan,” said the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.
The statement further urged other parties who had abstained to join the other parties to initialize the agreement so as to bring to an end one of the Africa’s bloodiest conflict without any reservations.
“As voice of voiceless, we call upon other parties which are skeptical to consider public demands and joint other principles to the conflict to end this senseless war by signing this initialing peace agreement. We the civil society would like to urge all parties to sign peace without reservations that will hinder the implementation of peace agreement in the nearest future,” the statement further said.
The statement in its conclusion urged the international community and the Troika, and the IGAD to prepare an independent body that would be tasked for the monitoring of the peace agreement due to be signed in the Sudanese capital on Sunday.
“Moreover; the citizens of South Sudan appeal to the peace mediators Troika, IGAD and International community to carefully prepare independent body that will help in the smooth monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of peace agreement,” it concluded.
