December 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement will today meet in Juba to find a provisional solution for the state dispute which has been one of the issues affecting the formation of a unity government.

The government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and opposition groups signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the ongoing six-year old civil war.

The agreement established the Technical Boundaries Committee (TBC) and the Independent Boundary Commission (IBC) to find solution for the dispute on the state. The TBC submitted its report and the IBC failed to resolve the issue leaving it for the parties.

The office of the IGAD special envoy for South Sudan said in a statement that the objective of the meeting was “primarily for the Parties to the R-ARCSS to consult and dialogue on the issue of the number of States and their Boundaries as well as the composition and restructuring of the Council of States.”

The meeting – the IGAD said – was for the parties to agree on the way forward on the state issue and that the “Parties are only expected to agree on a provisional arrangement that would pave the way for the formation of the R-TGoNU.”

“The constitution-making process under Chapter VI of the R-ARCSS will provide the proper platform for the South Sudanese people and all stakeholders to resolve the issue once and for all.”
