August 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese parties in the Sudanese capital Khartoum have kicked off the final phase of the South Sudan peace talks in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, officials told the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday.
The opening meeting also included a team of Kenyan experts who were sent by President Uhuru last week to help the South Sudanese parties in resolving their differences before the IGAD dateline which is now one week away.
“The IGAD mediation has formally launched in Khartoum the final phase of talks on the pending issues and the modalities of implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, as we have one week to finalize our discussions before the 19 of August,” Gatkuoth Mut Turoah, a spokesman for the SSUM leader Peter Gatdet and a member of the group’s delegates at the talks told the Nyamilepedia.
Gatkuoth said the parties, according to the agendas presented by the mediation will discuss the article four of the ARCISS on the number and boundaries of states, the creation of five ministries and their clustering, judicial reforms, composition of the National Constitutional Amendment Committee among other issues including the powers of the President and his deputies.
“According to the agendas, we, the parties, will discuss the Article 4 of the governance chapter on the number and boundaries of states, the creation of five new ministries and their clustering, judicial reforms, composition of National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC), roles and responsibilities of the presidency and any other business,” he said.
The IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan Ismail Wais took part in the first meeting of the final phase of talks in Khartoum on Monday.
