November 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement have attended a workshop of the peace security mechanisms according to the regional bloc, IGAD.
South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the conflict which has been ongoing in the world’s youngest nation since December 2013.
The agreement established various mechanisms for the implementation of the 2018 peace deal under the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC).
“IGAD convene security mechanism workshop in Juba today as part of the resolution reached during the November 7th Entebbe tripartite meeting at which the pre-transition[al] period was extended by 100 days,” the JMEC said.
“The R-JMEC has consistently called for the release of funds and continue to urge the ITGoNU to immediately release the requisite funding, in the understanding that one day without funding is a day lost,” the Interim Chairperson of the R-JMEC General Augustino Njoroge.
