July 24, 2021 — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has confirmed that members of parliament who were nominated to the national legislature last month will be sworn in next week.
Both Council of Ministers and TNLA were reconstituted by the President when he appointed Members of Parliament earlier this month.
According to the information received by Nyamilepedia, President Kiir while addressing the SPLM newly appointed Parliamentarians and leaders of the party’s top organs in Juba yesterday, said the legislators shall take their oath of office next week.
“You are supposed to be sworn in so that you can be a real caucus, we will do it in the coming week,” he said.
“All this time we have been saying we will do it next week, next week. The next week is becoming next year. It has to be done immediately. So it is better that we do it this time so that it relieves us,” Kiir added.
He also announced that the party’s choice for speaker of the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly is Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba who doubles as the current Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and also the SPLM Secretary-General.
The newly appointed members of the reconstituted national parliament should have taken the oath of office on 9 July; however, the swearing-in was adjourned until further notice.
