October 12,2021 — The Former Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Pa’gan Amum Okiech said those who refer to them as “Garang boys” nowadays are the enemies of the SPLM and also the enemies of the founding father of SPLM, late. Dr. John Garang De Mabior.
Pa’gan believes that they were being envied by the NCP elites, who were not happy with the vision of the new Sudan which they are committed to implement on behalf of their late leader and as such they were named as “Garang Boys” and pushed away from the government.
In an exclusive interview with Rumbek Broadcasting Corporation (RBC), on Saturday, Former SPLM Secretary General, Amum also admitted that they have failed because they did not enforce the vision of new Sudan however, he argued that the failure caused by Salva Kiir Mayardit has gone beyond description.
“.. Yes, I can admit that we failed to enforce the vision of new Sudan after the death of historical leader Dr. John Garang and we also failed to protect the SPLM from being influenced by the outsiders against its underlying principles”, SPLM former Secretary General Pa’gan Amum said during the interview.
He added that they failed also to isolate National Congress Party members from having big hands in the SPLM-led government and SPLM internal affairs and this is the responsibility which they collectively bear as SPLM members.
“We also failed from protecting the SPLM from tribal influences and the hijackers especially our former enemies, NCP who are now messing up the country”, he lamented.
He further reiterated that he do not see the incumbent regime of President Kiir as an SPLM-led government since it has branched from vision and objective of the historical party.
” I cannot be the SPLM Secretary General in this government because this government is just destroying the SPLM legacy since it worked against the vision and our mission as SPLM”, he emphasized.
Pa’gan also blames President Kiir for dishonoring SPLM unification deal commonly known as “Arusha Agreement” which was signed in 2015. He said the Arusha Agreement was encouraged and supported by the SPLM friends from the neighboring countries to restore the SPLM vision and direction.
