May 30th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – At least 25 people have been killed and unknown number wounded after cattle raiders from Northern Liech state counter-attacked villages in the country’s Twic state, senior government officials from from both states told the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday.
The Information Minister and Twic state government spokesman, Michael Mayot, said 25 people were killed after cattle raiders from Northern Liech state attacked several villages on Tuesday morning.
“Many people as far as 25 people have been killed. The initial deaths were 22 but some died from wounds later. The attackers came from Northern Liech state,” he said.
Mayot did not said what instigated the fighting but Northern Liech state information minister, Lam Tungwar Kuiguong told the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday that the attack by armed civilians from Bul came a week after armed youths from Twic raided cattle in several villages in Mayom county.
“They when to get back their cattle which were raided a week ago by armed elements from Twic state,” Lam said.
“We call on the people from both sides to decease from further escalation because the governments of the two sisterly states are working to bring the culprits to book and to avoid similar incidents in the future,” Lam added.
