Sep 19, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Kenyan opposition leader, Hon. Raila Odinga, hints that it is time for the constitution to be changed throgh the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI).
Speaking in Swahili during the celebration of ODMs nominated Member of Parliament and Kenya National Union of Teachers, Wilson Sossion’s daughters ceremony upon admission to the bar, he said that it is time to revisit the constitution and change the mistakes that those who opposed it ten years ago had seen.
“sasa ni miakaa kumi tangu tupitishe hii katiba, nasema sasa ni wakati wa kurudi ten kuangalia pale ambapo wale wajama walikuwa wanalia ati ni mbaya. Sasa waseme ili terekebishe,” Raila said.
The ODM leader also took the opportunity to challenge the deputy President William Ruto who has been opposing the BBI to tell Kenyans what he will do for Kenya if he were to be elected as the president instead of using dynasties vs. hustlers’ motion.
Mr Oding said that all the previous presidents, that is Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki all came from a poor background.
Devolution cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa echoed the ODM leader’s word saying that BBI is what devolution needs.
“Indeed when you look at the BBI, devolution is a centre piece of BBI, and when devolution wins, we are all winners.” He said.
While all leaders at the event seemed to follow in those footsteps, there were other political leaders in other parts of the country who were not boarding the BBI train.
These leaders are accusing the BBI supporters of being selfish and supporting it for personal gain saying that it is irresponsible for anyone to imagine that a country can spend its resources to change a constitution while the said politicians cannot support the current one.
Musalia Mudavadi is one of those opposing the BBI. He said that Kenya should look for a solution that unites them instead of dividing them.
