February 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Three holdout opposition groups who formed a new alliance this week has urged other opposition groups in South Sudan to join the new opposition umbrella that is calling for a federal system of government on the basis of three regions.

The new opposition consortium, National Alliance for Democracy And Freedom Action (NADAFA), was formed last week by three holdout opposition groups led by Dr. Hakim Dario who is the leader of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM).

The other two groups are the Workers Party of Upper Nile (WPU), led by Gatluke Raet and the Federal Democratic Party (FDP)/Army faction led by Thomas Peter.

The alliance urged all opposition groups in the country to join in to advocate for a government they said will be by the people and for the people and based the three regions of South Sudan.

“We call upon and urge all the opposition political forces to join hands with us for an alternative Peoples’ NADAFA Government in South Sudan; by the people and for the people based on the well-known three regions of Greater Bahr El Ghazal, Greater Equatoria and Greater Upper Nile,” they said in a join statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday.

The statement criticized President Salva Kiir for signing a peace agreement that he himself known is a bad agreement while holding the government responsible for launching offensives against opposition groups that are not signatories of the revitalized peace agreement leading to displacement.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit admitted that the current R-ARCSS is a bad agreement and that he nonetheless signed it, apparently to stop the suffering of the people. The recent unfortunate statements resonate with his remarks in Juba on September 12, 2015 expressing reservations about ARCSS; that the peace agreement “is neither a Holy Bible nor a Koran and should be opened up for negotiations.’ Indeed President Kiir later opened it up by starting another war,” the statement said.

“This is clearly an aggression by the government forces and it constitutes a flagrant violation of the December 2017 Cession of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA),” he added referring to alleged government offensives against holdout opposition groups in Central Equatoria that has displaced people to the DR Congo.

“The Peoples’ alliance, NADAFA urgently calls on all the opposition political forces in the country to unite for an alternative Peoples NADAFA Government that will be based on three regions for our country to end SPLM impunity and rewrite the R-ARCSS agreement to make it work for the country and put not the elites but the people first.”
