Opposition Alliance says is being forced to sign peace

August 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) said in a press statement extended to then Nyamilepedia that its members are being threatened by the Sudanese security members to sign the agreement after they rejected to sign it.

Today, Sunday, the South Sudan government, the SPLM-IO under the leadership of the country’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon will sign a peace agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

The South Sudan Opposition Alliance with the exception of the splinter group led by Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka and the Former Detainees will not sign the agreement.

In a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Saturday, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance said the Sudanese security is intimidating its members to sign the peace agreement and actually has persuaded some to do so on Sunday.

“Following SSOA’s firm stand of not to sign this agreement, this evening Khartoum local time, Sudan Security personnel has resorted to extreme intimidation and arm- twisting coercing SSOA members to sign on behalf of their constituent parties,” said the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.

The statement further said some of the alliance members from difference groups have been coerced to sign the agreement on Sunday.

“At this moment some members of SSPM, SSLM, and NAS has been coerce to sign the agreement tomorrow,” further said the statement.
