July 17th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), a consortium of nine non armed and armed South Sudanese political groups has rejected the power sharing proposal presented by the Sudanese government on Monday.
The Sudanese government on Monday unveiled a power sharing proposal for the South Sudanese parties. The peace plan seek to create yet another three vice presidents position to make up 5 with the current two.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, a SSOA official told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity that their group have rejected the deal because it does not address most important issues the group said would drag the country back to war.
“Yes we have rejected the proposal. First of all it does not address the issues that might drag us back to war again like the number of states,” the official told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
For their part, the government has rejected the deal saying they should not be represented equality with people who have no presence on the group and as such are so ineffective with the political situation in the country.
“If we are the government on the ground, there is no way of equating us with the opposition completely. People are trying to build people who have no presence on the ground; people who are not effective on the ground,” Government information minister Michael Makuei Lueth said.
