People’s Liberation Party (PLP), one of the political parties under the umbrella of OPP in a letter dated 16th May 2021, says the nomination was done by OPP Chairman Peter Mayen Majondit without due consultations with other party members.

“The PLP nominations to Members of Parliament to the R-TNLA that was presented to the office of the President by our Party Chairman Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit were neither nominated in consultations with party leadership nor approved but done single-handedly by Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit,” part of the statement reads.

This comes less than a week after OPP slammed Mr. Mayen, who also doubles as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, for nominating his relatives for the parliamentary seats.

PLP Executive Committee says the appointment is not representative of OPP and upholding it will erode the values that the political umbrella cherishes.

“OPP Chairman’s nominations are not representative of the people’s interest and are in violation of our party values of good governance and democracy,” it says adding that the appointees were families and friends of Mr. Mayen.

Among the appointees alleged to be Mayen’s relatives are Majong Majong (Mayen’s youngest brother), embattled Animu Afekuru Rasasi (a Ugandan friend), and Mou Thiik Simon (a cousin and SPLM-IG flag bearer).

PLP described the nomination as unfortunate and shameful adding that Mr. Mayen has thrown the leadership of the OPP Alliance in jeopardy.

“It is very unfortunate that Mayen did not present to your office the nominations from the OPP Alliance as were endorsed by the Alliance. This is shameful. Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit has put our OPP Alliance in jeopardy and incongruence, which amounts to bad faith leadership,” PLP continues.

PLP has requested President Salva Kiir to terminate the appointment of all 30 members on its card pending consultation and resubmission of what it calls a representative list of nominees.
