March 8, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — A group of armed men attacked a military base in the Ruweng Administrative Area leaving one soldier dead and another injured over the weekend.
The incident on the Abeimnom base was one of the three attacks in Ruweng between Friday and Saturday.
The attacks left one South Sudan Defence Forces soldier (SSPDF) dead and Another soldier was injured in an ambush on a military convoy between Abeimnom and Awila.
The director for information in Ruweng, Maikol Makuac says in the third incident, one cattle keeper was kidnapped, and 100 head of cattle looted.
Ruweng has had many cattle related attacks that have left many of villagers and animals stolen.
In July last year, the village suffered from attacks where 9 people including women and children were killed.
“On the 23rd and 28th, the SPLA-IO attacked our positions in Ruweng and during the attack 9 people including women, children and elderly people were killed,” Hon. Honorable Riek Manyiel said at the time.
He mentioned mostly women and children have been displaced by the assault.
“We condemn this unwarranted attack on the civilian population because we are in peace. We call on the presidency to investigate the people behind this incident,” he maintained.
