Oil production in Unity state’s Rubkona region resumes almost five years after outbreak of civil war

August 26th 2018 (Nyamilipedia) – The South Sudan and the Sudanese government has annouced the resumption of oil production in Unity State’s Tom South oil well on August 25th 2018.

The resumtion of the oil poduction is the first of its kind since the shutdown of the oil productuion in the Unity State’s Rubkona county following the out break of the country’s ongoing civil war in December 2013.

In a joint statetement on Friday after the launching of the production, South Sudan’s Petroleum Minister Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth and his Sudanese counterpart Azhari Abdulqadir  announced to the media that the oil production in the nothern part of the country have resumed.

“We have now resumed the production officially in Toma South, we will be producing 25,000 barrels a day and we will be sending it to Heglig,” Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, South Sudan’s oil minister said.

He said that a team from the private ran Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company or GNPOC will be working in the Tom South plan on daily basis.

“My team in the Ministry of Petroleum of the Republic of South Sudan, GNPOC will be here in Toma South working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to make sure that the production is not interrupted,” he further said.

For his part, the Sudanese Minister of Petroleum and Gas, Azhari Abdulqadir said the launch of thr production is a great achievement and a first step in regaining the lost encountered during the last five years.

“This is a great achievement. In my opinion, it is really a small step in the process of regaining all the lost production from the fields of South Sudan since 2013. It’s happening where we didn’t know what we are dealing with when we came here in July and now we have just heard from Mr. Guo the president of GNPOC. They are willing and ready to push this and get all the oil in the field in South Sudan back on the streams so we build on that,” he said.

The Tom South is a located in Unity State’s Rubkona county and which make the second largest drilling production in teh country after the Upper Nile.

Opening of the oil wells in South Sudan is a welcome story which every one is eager to hear,but will the oil products be used to alleviate the sufferings of South Sudanese meshes ? Illiteracy,hunger.lack of health facilities,roads,Education
or will it be used to buy more arms to arm militias ?
