December 14, 2021—South Sudan’s First Vice Presiden, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has sacked the country’s minister of petroleum Puot Kang Chol as Chairman of the SPLM-IO Youth League.
Speaking during the meeting of the National Liberation Council’s meeting last week, Dr. Riek Machar Teny said, the Chairman of the SPLM-IO Youth League, Puot Kang Chol should step aside along with Deputy Saed Bandas so that the body of youth is ran only by Cde. Jackson Wani who is the Secretary General.
“Comrade Puot Kang is no longer a youth and Saed Bandas, now you have to step aside and the new youth leadership will be structured”, Dr. Riek Machar Teny said during the meeting of the SPLM-IO National Liberation Council.
According to the SPLM-IO Constitution, the person who is a youth shall be between 15 and 35 and as such Puot and Saed are above that age limit and that is why they cannot run the youth affairs when they are not youth.”, Machar added.
Cde. Puot has been the leader of the SPLM-IO youth body since 2014 following the SPLM-IO National Convention held in Nasir. His appointment as minister of petroleum in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGONU) on the SPLM-IO ticket was applauded as great representation of the SPLM-IO youth.
