Office of South Sudan’s First lady ‘deeply’ regrets death of South Sudan former deputy minister

October 9th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The office of the South Sudan’s First Lady Ayen Mayardiit said on Tuesday that the First Lady is deeply sadned by the news of passing on of former deputy minister and special advisor to the first lady in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

On Monday, Priscilla Nyayang Kuch who served in the South Sudan government as deputy minister of gender, child and social welfare and as a special advisor to the country’s first lady died in in the Sudanese capital Khartoum following a lengthy illness.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the office of the South Sudan First Lady said it is sadned to hear the news of death of the former minister deeply regretting the passing on.

“On behalf of Her Excellency Mary Ayen Mayardit, the First Lady of the Republic of South Sudan and on behalf of Concern for Women and Children, we deeply regret the passing on of the late Hon. Pricilla Nyanyang, former Deputy Minister of Gender, Religion and Social Welfare and Special Advisor to the First Lady of the Republic of South Sudan who died in Khartoum, Sudan on 8th October 2018,” said the office of the First Lady in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The office of the First Lady further extended its condolences to teh family and teh communities of the former minister.

“With deep sorrow, we extend our condolences to the grieved family of Makuaac Abyei and Rumbek Community at large for the loss of a great daughter and industrious national icon,” it further added.

Nanyang earned a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery in 1978 from University of Khartoum. She received her Masters of Community Medicine in 1987 also from the University of Khartoum.

Between 2005 and 2010 she served as a Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) member of National Assembly and Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee in the National Parliament.

In 2007, Nanyang participated in an SPLM task force to try and facilitate peace talks in Darfur. Nanyang was one of seven women appointed to the South Sudanese cabinet in June 2010. She was appointed Minister Without Portfolio in the Cabinet of South Sudan on 10 July 2011.

As Minister Without Portfolio, Nanyang led an eight-week research project, called “Comprehensive Evaluation of the Government of South Sudan”, to study how the South Sudanese Government was performing since its formation in 2005
