November 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A Nuer student body, the Naath University and College Students’ Union in Uganda, has elected a new leadership following a “free and fair” elections conducted at the Cavendish University.
The main contestants were Mut Jal – who promised financial mobilization and forging unity among the Nuer university students – and Tap John Puol who promised change and women empowerment.
Puol who studies at Cavendish University won the election and his rival conceded.
A number of Nuer elders who were presence at the election hall spoke of unity and urged candidates – before the vote – to concede defeat and urged the students to unite behind who ever would emerge as a winner.
Uganda has been one of educational hubs for South Sudanese students who have fled the ongoing civil war which began in December 2013 following a disputed National Convention of the ruling SPLM party.
