December 6, 2021 — A senior official working at National Revenue Authority is facing suspension threats for ordering companies linked to “big men” to file their taxes.
Last month, the Deputy Commissioner for Domestic Tax Division of NRA, Lino Ajang Ajang announced that the National Revenue Authority had frozen accounts of at least ten companies over alleged tax evasion.
According to senior government official, who requested to speak on condition of anonymity, the NRA Boss Dr. Patrick K Mugoya, acting upon directives from a high authority, has been ordered to immediately suspend Lino Ajang Ajang after imposing heavy taxes on companies that are linked to “powerful” men in the government.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the companies which include Ethiopian Airlines have never paid taxes and owes NRA a whopping fifty Million Dollars ($50,000,000) in tax revenues.
The source revealed that Ajang’s suspension will be a big blow to National Revenue Authority’s integrity and will undermine efforts by tax officials to perform their duties.
According to Vice President for Economic Cluster, the Domestic Tax Division under Ajang’s leadership has achieved an upward growth in tax collection in the last quarter.
